Events of 2009
Lars and I sat down the other night to figure out which events we wanted to partake in for 2009...mainly so I would know how to train.
We have different styles, Lars and I. I like to be overly prepared, know exactly what I'm getting myself in for and train hard. Last year Lars decided to lose the 25 pounds he packed on in the summer/fall of 2007, and started January 1st 08 with no plan other than getting in shape..it worked, within 2 months he was back to his normal weight and regaining endurance and strength he had lost. So needless to say when he decides to do a race he sticks to his normal works outs and just goes balls out during the race and does great!
So this is what we came up with:
February 22nd Chilly Hilly (our 2nd chilly hilly!)
March 28th Wenatchee Valley Du (this is tentative)
April 4th kids Ridge 2 River
April 18th Wenatchee 1/2 marathon (Jenni)
April 19th Ridge 2 River (Lars)
May 23rd Mazama Fun run 10k (great swag for all) besides Lars won and entry last year for this year
June 20th Lance Armstrong Challenge 100 mile ride (tentative)
June 27 Seattle Rock and Roll 1/2 marathon
July11 Seattle to Portland (STP) in 1 day this year
August 22 Apple Capital Tri (haven't decided which event)
This is as far as we got, I know Lars will sign us up for something in September and October..should be fun!

Weekend Fun!!
What were we up to all weekend? Lots of skiing! I had a real treat on Friday, Erika went up with me! I had so much fun, skiing and chit chatting, we HAVE to do it again soon! Next time I will take my camera up...for proof that you went!
Saturday Lars and I dragged our butts out of bed for spin class (nothing like massively sweating at 730 in the morning!) Then at 11:30 Luke had an hour and a half skate lesson, Logan chose not to go and instead went to stay with Janet...where she reminded her it was about time to start thinking of her birthday.
This was great for Lars and I, we were able to do 2 full loops (16km) at the hatchery during Luke's lesson.
Our reward would come later that night, we met with our wine group. Last year we did varietals, this year we've moved on to the regions of Italy. Last night was Tuscany, so we enjoyed 2 very good Brunellos, one Super Tuscan and one Chianti Riserva....all to my liking! Good company, good food and good wine..what a great way to end the day!

Sunday afternoon brought more skiing. We took Luke up to the golf coarse to practice his skating skills. He did so good! This was his 3rd time ever skating and he was able to master both the inside and outside trail there..with out falling...and going at a decent speed. It made me wish I had learned when I was that young!
They are two of a kind!
Sunday morning was a real treat for Obie. I met Becky and Ben (shown in the picture), and Sarah and her dog Chloe, not really bright, but early Sunday morning for a hike up Saddlerock.
They were so much fun..I think Obie fell in love with Chloe, I tried to get a pic of all 3 together but it was just way too exciting! Ben does wonders for Obies confidence!

Outdoor Activity Overdrive (OAO)
So the winter is proving to be pretty good despite the lack of snow in the valley. Here's the thing for those that like to get exercise outside this weather, and conditions are great! I am once again commuting to work on my bike (a cyclo cross), the roads are clear for running and cycling, and the Nordic trails in Leavenworth (especially this last weekend) have been amazing given the lack of new snow. Needless to say I am exhausted!
No school on Monday so I took Luke up to try out skating. He rocked! Lars and I pretty much just skate now and Luke is so laid back he was all for trying it. I think he's hooked!
I am so proud!
Sunday at the golf coarse, our friends right behind Lars
Out on the trail. On the weekends we usually go to the Golf Course if its open, a lot less people, great skiing, eagles and deer..can't beat that!

Murder Mystery
Tonight we were invited to a murder mystery party. A first for us, each person was emailed their identity and clues how to play, I was Gabby Gossip a reporter and Lars was Shamus Steal an Eco friendly lawyer. For those that grew up in East Wenatchee it was held at what was once known as the Ginsinger mansion, now owned by another couple who donated their house at the Humane Society Auction to host this. It was great, thanks Dhingras' and Browns'
The pic is taken at my parents house, where the little children are enjoying staying up late and cable television!

Carpet on the wall...
it happens! So for those of you have not been to our house and were slightly confused with the previous comments on the last post..sad to say our basement bathroom came with carpet on the wall!
I affectionately call this room the sh*#&er. The thing is, its the 3rd bathroom, located in the basement..it is what it is! I can only imagine the conversation that would lead to asking someone to install carpet on the wall!

Back to the Mainland..
and back to reality! We got back late Monday night, the kiddos went to school the next day, Lars to work, and I stayed home to unpack...but not before I went skate skiing!
It was a winter wonderland here Tuesday, but that was soon to change, the pineapple express came through with those warm winds, and knocked a few too many shingles off our roof. Turned up the temperature and melted all the snow. Now our basement bedroom is flooded. I'm not too sad about that, lets just say the carpet down there was a little "retro" anyways!
As much as a I love Hawaii its good to be home, natural disasters and all. Lars and I are back to spinning several nights a week, I've made it up to skate 3 times in the last 5 days and we have a sitter lined up for tomorrow so we can head up again.
We also started our New Years resolution...yoga! Its been about 9 years since I went to yoga on a regular basis...starting over! We're starting slow, one night a week at the WRAC, but this morning in spin class Lars and I were both wishing we had another day of yoga in the week!

enjoying the last few days!
So this happens every time we go to Hawaii, the days before we leave I am so bummed that we have to leave, this time I saw an add for a 5 acre coffee farm and thought..why not! Oh yea the price and the fact that I know nothing about farming brought me back to reality.
I can't say how much I love this time with my family. Having the business at home, Lars work and kids school and activities I crave time to spend with just them. I feel we get so wrapped up in day to day activities the time flies, it's in these 2 weeks a year we get to stop and enjoy each other, no stresses, no having to be anywhere, and no schedule!
So last few days we have been enjoying all the great things this island has to offer. Before we left our friend Chad gave us a book The Big Island Revealed ( a must), but even more valuable he wrote notes in it, so we have felt so at home on this island from the time we got off the plane and knew where Costco was...thanks Chad!
Lets see on the 31st we went to Hapuna again and yes saw Lance Armstrong again! This time I didn't bother with a picture ( I just took in the great view), but Luke got his flip out and got a little video of him when we drove back by him.
The 1st we drove on a rugged lava road ( that maybe was paved once), then parked when you couldn't go any further and hike about 20 minutes through lava and a'a fields to the most amazing beach I have ever seen (thats where we are in the pic above). The sand was powdery fine, hardly anyone there. Here we were hot and sweaty hiking in this rugged stuff and all of a sudden palm trees and Makalawena beach!
Friday we did nothing but hit the pool.
Today we rented kayaks and kayaked out to Captain Cook Memorial to snorkel. The whole thing seemed like a shady operation at first, you paid people cash for a kayak and off you went no instruction, warning, or what to do's, but we did it and it was great. It did get a little choppy on the way back and Lars got a little motion sick. I am much more of an ocean girl than a river girl!
