Long day on the Big Island

We spent the day driving to the volcano. On the way we stopped at a black sand beach that was known to have turtles, if your lucky enough sometimes they beach themselves.
This guy was resting when we got there. We saw a bunch of his friends in the water.

The turtles are protected, so you have to keep your distance at 15 feet.

This was at the volcano, in the caldera and around the crater rim there are steam vents (which you can see in the back ground). It was a little wet today so we would stop on our way up at the vents and warm up.

What an amazing day! How lucky to get so close to the big turtles, they are truly unique creatures with such a struggle to survive. And the volcano - wow! Thanks for taking us along with pics!
Love,
Gram & Pop :-)
Miss you!
